Acer is recently issued an Android 4.0 update for the Iconia Tab A200, while anyone who’re happen to own the A100 or A500 series should wait until mid-April to taste the Ice Cream Sandwich on their tablet. Well, it’s still February. This is mean that the Android 4.0 update will start to roll out two months later. By the time the update arrive, there should be plenty of new ICS tablet released.
Thankfully, the official Android 4.0.3 firmware is leaked at XDA forum. This is mean that you can experience the latest version of Android OS in your A100 and A500, right away. All you have to do is flash the firmware to the device. Some of XDA members suggest that this leaked firmware worked pretty well and there’s no serious issues encountered at the moment. But please note that this is not the final version of the firmware, so we suggest you to update your tablet once again when the actual update available.
Sadly, you’ll instantly loose your root access after installing this firmware. However, the ROM should be rooted in the next few days, but if you can’t wait to try the leaked firmware, here’s a simple guide for you.
1. Grab the update file (A100 or A500) and rename it to update.zip
2. move the .zip file into the root folder of your SD card
3. Shut down your tablet, press and hold the Volume + button and turn on the device.
4. Your tablet should work under the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.
