Amazon Kindle Touch is one of the best e-reader device that currently available in Amazon’s inventory. You can choose between the 3G and WiFi model, each of them features lot of advanced features. You can utilize the touch navigation to initiate such function like adjusting font size, text to speech and popular highlight.
Build and Design
Kindle touch currently has 6.5 x 4.7 x 0.40 inches dimension. It is little bit larger than an Amazon Kindle. We can’t even tell the difference between those two tablet until we put it on side by side comparison. You will find only one buttons on it’s front side, which is actually the home button. This kind of design is something that you’ll find on the rest model of old generation Kindle.
This e-reader sports 6 inch screen size. The whole tablet’s body is covered in grey color. On the bottom left corner, there’s USB charging port, audio jack, and the power button. If you touch the bottom side of the back cover, you’ll find the built-in speakers.
If you’re currently prefer the 3G model, your device should be weighs at 7.5 ounces. While the WiFi model is 0.3 ounces heavier. When we hold on to this tablet for long time, it doesn’t feel heavy at all. Makes it perfect to read a long story books for hours. The back cover has some textured surface, so this device won’t easily slip when you loose your grip.
Kindle Touch feature rounded corners. Overall, the whole tablet’s case is build very well and it looks strong. We’ve already try the home and power buttons several times and we can’t find anything wrong with it. But our little disappointment might be addressed to Kindle Touch‘s internal memory. This tablet only has 4 GB internal data space and there’s no microSD card slot available. Fortunately, you can easily transfer and delete your books collection by simply plug in the tablet into a computer.
Screen and Speakers
Kindle Touch‘s 6 inch screen can handle maximum 600 x 800 resolution display. It is currently measured at 167 ppi for it’s pixels density. However it is a grayscale screen. Although you won’t find any colors there, you can still experience the amazing e-ink display technology. Texts and fonts are displayed perfectly. It has great viewing angles, which is mean that you can read your favorite books in any position that you want.
This tablet is the first from Amazon that feature touch navigation. Adaptation process can be difficult, especially if you previously used the older version of Kindle or Barnes and Noble’s Nook. However, since Amazon packed Kindle Touch with minimalistic buttons, you’ll rely on your fingers touch to navigate in most of tablet’s interface. Simply tap on the top side of the screen to pop-out the main menu. Tap and hold on a specific word and Kindle touch will come out with the definition. You can even add your own notes with this feature.
Speakers are currently located on the bottom part of Kindle’s back cover. If you’re currently read an audible books, then you can use Kindle to read the book’s content. You can also play your favorite tunes with this one. When we turn the speakers to maximum sound level, we can hear that the sound quality is quite amazing for an e-reader. It is nowhere equal to an Audio Beats device, but it is not bad either.
Performance
The touch screen is very responsive. You might experience slower performance at the indexing process, especially if you have large amount of book collections. But don’t worry, the moment after the process complete it will go back to it’s previous speed.
Default web browser is fine. It can open several websites without any problem. Although it is not support for flash format and video, it is more than enough to find any new information about recommended book titles. Besides, if you’re looking for a fast web browsing experience, you won’t grab Kindle Touch right?
Say goodbye to physical keyboard and get used to the touch screen keyboard. It is work fine and responsive either. We didn’t find any problem to do some fast typing. The keyboard interface take almost the entire width of the screen. Amazon did a great job by separating letter keys from numbers, which is make the whole interface become more compact.
When we turn off the WiFi feature, the battery unit can last up to one and a half day of full reading activities. If you just leave your Kindle Touch on standby mode, you won’t have to charge it for 2 months. But please note that Amazon only give you a standard USB charging cable, there’s no wall charger included. However you can buy the additional wall charger port for $15 from Amazon.
Features
One of the most standout thing from Kindle Touch is the X-Ray feature. You’ll be able to look inside your books “body”. But this feature is not available for all books. When you highlight a book with this feature, X-Ray button will appear at the bottom of your screen. Simply tap this button and you’ll get various information about characters, places, and terms that can be founded inside the book. If you wondered where the tablet get all of those information, then we are happy to tell you that its all gathered from Wikipedia and Shelfari.
